Subject: | What Are You Thankful For...? |
Dear Listers,
Here in the United States, Thursday is our National day of Thanksgiving. Many
of us will be traveling to be with our families and friends to share in generous
feasts of plenty and giving thanks for the many blessings that have been bestowed
upon us.
Many Listers have expressed over the last couple of weeks how thankful they are
for the Email Lists and Forums here on the Matronics servers and for all of the
assistance and comradery they have experienced being a part of the Lists.
One of my favorite comments is when someone writes to me and says something like,
"Its the first thing I do in the morning while I'm having my morning coffee!".
That's a wonderful tribute to the purpose and function of these Lists.
Its always great to hear I'm not the only one that jumps out of bed each morning
to check my List email!!
Won't you take a minute today and show your appreciation for these Lists and for
their continued operation and upgrade?
The List Contribution Site is:
http://www.matronics.com/contribution
Or, drop a personal check in the mail to:

OK. So I joined this seaplane list several months ago and haven't
gotten a single post about seaplanes, yet I seem to get daily requests
for money telling me I'm supposed to be giving money to keep this list
going. Am I missing something?

Helen,
If the only list you subscribe to is the seaplane, I understand your
question. The seaplane list has, regrettably, almost no activity.
The requests go to all of the Matronics lists. Many are very active and
deserving of support by their subscribers. My favorite is the
aeroelectric list.
Hope this sheds some light on the requests.

I completely agree with Raymond, including my favorite being the
Aeroelectric list moderated by Bob Nuckolls. I subscribed to the original,
the RV list, back around 97 or 98 and have been contributing during the
annual fundraisers ever since, even though my RV-8 project is stalled and
money is really tight this year - and I haven't flown a floatplane for
several years. For your limited use, it's probably not worth contributing,
but I suggest you subscribe to a couple of other of the Matronics lists and
see if maybe you find it worth your while.

Thanks for the explanations. That does make sense. If you'll pardon
another question though, why doesn't the host just move these over to
the yahoo groups server which is totally free and provides some nice
options like list digests, web based subscriptions, message archiving a
search functions, etc? I subscribe to a number of those and even
moderate one and see no downside to using the free yahoo server. To the
contrary, to someone such as myself who may have a very occasional
question to post about electronics or Rotax engines or such, the yahoo
options make more sense than the straight list serve offered here. ???

I'm sure there are multiple other reasons but ones I like for
keeping things here are:
1) No ads
2) No spam
3) No account creation required
4) Subscribing and unsubscribing is significantly easier
5) My email address and info doesn't get sold
I'm also subscribed to some Yahoo groups, but do not like them as
much as the lists here.

Matt sends those notices out to every member of every list on his server.
Occasionally I get posts form this list not nearly so often as Aerolectric
or Kitfox.
