Subject: | new Sonerai II owner |
--> Sonerai-List message posted by: "Brian Kraut" <brian.kraut@engalt.com>
I just bought a flying Sonerai II. It has been on a trailer for about 5
months, but should be back to flying very soon. I am in Jacksonville, FL.
Any others near here?
This one does not have the wing strenghtening mod done yet. I have the
plans supplement, but they don't do a great job showing what needs to be
done. Anyone happen to have a web site doccumenting it with pictures? Any
estimate on how long it takes to do? Are there a lot just flying without
the mod?
How feasible is it to convert the mid wing to a low wing?
I currently have a flying Midget Mustang and I have put 102 hours on it
since the first flight about four months ago. I also had a KR-2 and put 45
hours on it. Anyone with Sonerai experience that has flown a KR or Midget
Mustang that can give me a comparison?
Sorry for all the same newbie questions that have probably been answered a
dozen times.

Brian,
This list is pretty quiet, so I'll give you my thoughts on the Sonerai. It
flys very easily, is straightforward, responsive, with light but predictable controls.
I love flyin' them but switched to the RV's because of the lack of
power/performance. The Midget Mustangs are squirrely in my opinion, but have
good performance. You'll likely missed that performance when flyin' your Sonerai.
Changing from a mid-wing to a low wing ain't easy. You'll have to do some MAJOR
welding and then find an FAA inspector to examine and sign-off your "new Experimental"
aircraft.
Have fun flyin' I think you'll like the way she'll roll & loop, but watch the
G loading until after you do the wing mods.
