Yes, that would work. Back in the old days, they had the pully engraved with
the degree marks (every two degrees) for both negative and positive and I
used to mark the advance degree I wanted with white paint and then with the
engine running adjust the distributor until I would see the white paint line up
with a built-in pointer in the block using my fixed timing light. Wow - those
were the days of simpler cars and simple repairs.
I don't see any marks on the pulley on my Stratus, so we would have to make
our own marks. The trick is to find exactly where TDC is for cylinder 1 with
no advance or retard. Then, you can mark the degree marks for both advanced
timing and retarded timing using the protractor. Maybe someone has info on
that?
