I started a Pelican list in an attempt to get some builders together but we only get about one or two emails per year and Matt has left it up. I just started taxi testing and installed a new VDO tach. The Tini-tach copy that I had wasn't very good and I never got a good reading out of it. I was concerned that my fixed-pitch Prince cruise prop wasn't allowing a high enough static rpm. I was glad (and surprised) to see 4900 rpm static with the 68" X 62" prop. Might be my imagination, but the engine seems smoother with a better idle after warm up since the RAM heads were installed. Cooling with my two small radiators inside the cowling seems ok so far, and I can't wait to see how it all works in the air. I got an extra mag pickup from Mykal and it fits on the other side of the drive where there is an identical spot machined out. I'll be trying to make a digital tach for it which would be independant of the ignition system, but that'll be a winter project. I have a PC in the panel as an engine monitor but it's not quite done yet. I should be able to record a bunch of stuff like fuel flow, fuel pressure, drive temp, MAP, all currents and voltages, etc. It turned out to be too big a project in addition to building the plane and installing the engine. I already have cooling temp out and into the block and it was fairly useful to have. I heard that there should be about 15-20 degree drop across the cooling system and I'm seeing 15 degrees on the ground. So, don't ever say it's slow on the list because I'll always babble on about something. I'd still like to investigate the ignition system and understand the coil resistance as it relates to the different ignitions but that'll be a winter project too. I'm trying to beat the cold weather here in New England and get the plane finished first. I also hope to install a motorcycle muffler. The engine is pretty quiet but when I hold this thing on the end it sounds like a car - super quiet. Yes, more weight, more money and more work but unfortunately that seems to be my building philosophy (just weighed my plump project) and I'd like to set an example for how quiet an airplane can be. off to the airport, gary
