--> Stratus-List message posted by: "Larry McFarland" <larrymc@qconline.com> Hi List! I'm completing the cowl, getting ready for startup and runnning the Stratus. Moving from there, back to trail edges for the center wing. Anyway, I'm going to take or send my heads to Ron at Ram for the hat section valve guides etc and wondered what the turnaround time is for his work, and is there anything else I should know before doing this? --> Stratus-List message posted by: Bill Morelli <billvt@together.net> Larry, My heads took 10 days total time. (from me to him and back to me) Ron asks for a deposit (I sent a check for $300) and then he COD'ed the heads back UPS. The COD was a bit of a pain. If I had it to do again, I would just send him a bank check for the entire amount up front. He also sells a gasket set that he has custom made and I purchased that also. When you go to remove the heads, there is a coolant drain plug on the bottom of each head. I did not realize this and pulled the heads with a good amount of coolant in each and made quite a mess. He also sends a manual that explains how to reinstall and torque them, etc. One thing the manual did not say was that when you have it running again, after the first engine run to temperature, to torque the heads again. I had flown a couple of hours and then sent Ron an e-mail and asked when I should check torque. He said "Immediately"!! Anyway, If I think of anything else, I'll pass it along. Some are blocked on the stock gaskets. don ----- Original Message ----- From: Bill Morelli To: stratus-list@matronics.com Sent: Monday, October 13, 2003 7:28 PM Subject: Re: Stratus-List: Head rebuild --> Stratus-List message posted by: Bill Morelli <billvt@together.net> Larry, My heads took 10 days total time. Is everyone making custom wood crates to send their heads off to RAM? From my experiences this crate better be pretty beefy as everything my local delivery guys get there hands on they manage to some how damage. Kelly
