Hi Bill,
Yeah, I did it last year with a little help. But I don't remember a lot of
the details. My reduction unit was off already since my housing had cracked and
I replaced it. but it was more of a job than I expected to pull the shaft. I
found that my front bearing was worn, so I just replaced them both at the recommendation
of my engineer/machinist friend who helped me. Also removed the inner
seals on the bearings, installed a grease fitting and put a hand full of grease
in the cavity to avoid having to do it again in 300 hours. I know we had
to knock pretty hard on the shaft and stuff to get all of it apart and back together.
I did that at 235 hours. Now have 318. All is smooth and cool. Sorry
I don't remember more. Thought I would weigh in since no one has responded.

And Bill, I do remember that you have to keep the concentrics aligned as you go
back together. They are keyed. We smoothed my concentrics up a bit since he thought
they were too tight and used an anti seize when going back together. Now
my adjustments feel right for the first time when adjusting the belt. Previously
it was very difficult to adjust...moving in jerks and requiring lots of force.

Don,
My prop shaft bearings are a bit noisy as I spin the shaft but I don't know
what would be considered excessive since I did not listen to them when they
were new!!
Do you recall what the bearing part number is and the cost? I might just go
ahead and replace the bearings while I have it apart. If the bearings are
not too expensive, it may be worth changing them every 300 hours with the
drive belt.

I replaced mine with Federal Mogul 207-FF. Now I remember the dilemma. How to repack
them when they are sealed like they are. I think I gave around thirty bucks
each for them. Not cheap. I just looked at the old ones. The rear still spins
smoothly and quietly, though I replaced it anyway. The front was slightly
noisy and slightly rough.

Don,
I have my upper redirve pulley off so I checked the bearings (listening and
feeling carefully). My front one is a bit noisy and a bit rough, the rear
still seems smooth and quiet, I want to change them while I have it all
apart anyway.
How in the #$%#$ do you get the bearings out of the pulley?? I tried with
no luck. The rear one obviously comes out the rear. Is there a lip on the
front of the pulley requiring the front bearing come out the rear also. Did
you have to get them pressed out with a hydraulic press??
