--> Stratus-List message posted by: Bill Morelli <billvt@together.net> I'm still having trouble getting the prop shaft bearings out of the upper drive gear. I sent Mykal a note and asked him how to get them out but he has not replied. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Bill

Bill, I haven't really looked at mine closely so I'm not sure how their installed but would a slide hammer work, or possibly a gear puller? Sounds like it may come down to putting them in a hydraulic press and pushing them out (and back in). I had to use that method on my Challenger's belt drive bearing once. Kelly

--> Stratus-List message posted by: Bill Morelli <billvt@together.net> Kelly, I may have to go to a machine shop to have them pressed out and in. It looks like they both go out the rear of the gear. That means you would have to press the front bearing toward the back which would then press out the rear bearing. There is also a spacer floating between the bearings. I wish that Mykal would reply with some details on how to do this. Thanks, Bill > > I'm still having trouble getting the prop shaft bearings out of the upper > > drive gear. > > > > Anyone have any ideas? > > >Bill, >I haven't really looked at mine closely so I'm not sure how their installed >but would a slide hammer work, or possibly a gear puller? >Sounds like it may come down to putting them in a hydraulic press and >pushing them out (and back in). Just don't spread to far or overtorque. My concentrics were slightly big and not smooth from the mfr. which I believe caused me to over spread for adjustment. But I felt it crack on torqueing down. don ----- Original Message ----- From: Gary K To: stratus-list@matronics.com Sent: Monday, November 10, 2003 7:00 AM Subject: Re: Stratus-List: Prop Shaft Bearings --> Stratus-List message posted by: "Gary K" <flyink@efortress.com> Don, Do you have any pictures of where the housing cracked? Was it around the two spreader bolts on top? Just curious about where to keep an eye out. But I don't remember a lot of the details. My reduction unit was off already since my housing had cracked and I replaced it. but it was more of a job than I expected to pull the shaft. I found that my front bearing was worn, so I just replaced them both at the recommendation of my engineer/machinist friend who helped me. Also removed the inner seals on the bearings, installed a grease fitting and put a hand full of grease in the cavity to avoid having to do it again in 300 hours. I know we had to knock pretty hard on the shaft and stuff to get all of it apart and back together. I did that at 235 hours. Now have 318. All is smooth and cool. Sorry I don't remember more. Thought I would weigh in since no one has responded.
