Hi Guys,
This may be in my head but I get the feeling I am getting increased levels
of vibration from my Stratus conversion. Like a gentle rumble....
I am wondering if I have worn re-drive bearings. I had the re-drive off at
about 280 hours and the bottom bearing felt fine at that point. Of course I
did not check out the top (grease lubricated) bearings.
I have 314 hours on the redrive now and I think someone had a problem around
this time. Can someone enlighten me how to take thing apart and check the
bearings? Was the vibration noticable?
I seem to remember this person removed the grease seals and added a grease
nipple?
Thanks
Frank

Frank,
when my redrive Casting cracked and I replaced it, I added a grease fitting.
the front bearing was a little rough but making no noise. I replaced them both
anyway since I was in it. Of course with a new casting, I had to take the old
apart and re assemble everything. It seems like we had to knock the bearings
out the same end. I Know someone else has done it recently who can help. don

Was it a lot of work to do this Don?...I really don't want to take the
re-drive off the engine to do it if I can possibly avoid it.
I like the idea to add a grease nipple.
How are the new heads running?
My engine has been sweet for the last 40 hours apart from this last episode
of "nagging doubt" that is.

I believe Bill Morelli just went thru this .... see his post below.
Possibly he can give you more details.

You may be able to do it on the engine. I had it off of course. But it is a bit
of work to get the bearings out and in again. that is one reason for the grease
sert.
I took the Stratus off and put my own Subaru back on, using the Stratus systems.
Mine is much smoother with less compression but only about 90 h.p. I haven't
had heads built by Ram yet, but am still considering it. I miss the punch of
the other engine. Reiner told me it was 113 h.p. when I bought it. I went from
1700 fpm climb to 1200. But this ones starts soooo easy even in cold weather
and runs extremely smooth.
Are you getting any more power with the Ram heads? they are shaved even more than
Stratus was. don
