Just one more word of caution for you Stratus pilots ..... watch that top
right motor mount carefully! I believe I just broke the record (and mount)
for the fastest cracked motor mount. Mine just cracked at only 78 hours! The
crack is identical to Bill Morelli's ( see his photos here
http://homepages.together.net/~billvt/Engine%20Mount%20Crack/Engine%20Mount%20Crack.htm )
but not as long as his.
To repair it I sandblasted the bracket, added a doubler plate similar to
Bill's on both sides of the bracket. And to prevent a second failure like
Bill shows in his photos I added a bottom corner gusset to tie it together.
I have also painted the bracket white as I did my firewall engine mount from
ZAC. As it's really hard to see a crack developing under a dark colored
powder coating. And like Bill I swapped the wimpy thin finder washers (front
side only) with a nice thick washer, as mine was very dished after only 78
hours.
I plan to reinstall the mount tomorrow but I will take a few photo's of my
repaired bracket if anyone is interested in seeing my fix.
One side note about this, I fly my plane at very low RPM's normally about
3,800 to 4,000 max. And on take off I still only use about 3/4 throttle, so
if looks like babying the RPM makes no difference.

One question about reinstalling the motor mount.
My book shows the two nuts that hold the motor mount onto the engine must be
torqued down to 47 ft/lbs. Must the entire head now be retorqued, or can I
just retorque the two nuts back to 47 ft/lbs?
Thanks for any advice.

Glad you caught that Kelly. I have a slightly different style on my Stratus
but I'll be keeping a really close eye on it. Send me a picture of your
fix, I'd like to see it. I'm sure it'll stay together now.
I just flew off my 40 hours today, feels good. A 2.5 hour flight, then ate,
refueled and 3 more hours. No problems at all, these really are great
engines. I'm still waiting for my muffler so I'm flying with straight
pipes. The only comment I got was "it sounds like a real airplane now".
I'll take the quiet anytime, it's much nicer flying with the muffler.
I'm off with the wife to my very first fly-in tomorrow morning, it's been a
long time coming. Boy I hope she likes our plane ;<}.

Hi Gary,
Congrats on hitting the 40 hour mark! How's your temps now?
I'll try sending you a few photo's of my repair tomorrow.
