Yes I agree, he sent out the same inferior product to me last week that he
knows has a design flaw.
I sure wish he flew behind his own product!

> Gary...What your friend told you would be true with a more normal
motorcycle carb. However, the Bing carbs have vacuum operated sliders. The
dome at the top of the carb is a big rubber diaphram. It actually pulls the
slider up when airflow thru the carb creates a vacuum. i.e. there is no
internal mechanical linkage to the slider.

ooops, you're right, I didn't mean slide. But it worked for the butterfly
valve just as well, that's what the throttle cable is connected to. That
mechanical sync is all I've done so far, it was as smotth as glass without
the prop.
I talked to another Pelican owner that had a Crossflow soob with a belt
drive and ordered a RAM 140 HP, I'm anxious to see it when it comes in.
Anyway, I wanted to know what he thought of the three props he went thru on
his belt drive. I thought he had a 3-blade IVO but he had a 2-blade IVO
then went to a 3-blade Warp after another 2-blade fixed pitch. He said he
always had a harmonic vibration with the 2-blades and it was like a turbine
with the 3-blade. It turns out that the Autoflight drive on the RAM engine
turns CCW and he can't use his prop so I just bought his 3-blade Warp. I'll
still do the sync and play with belt tension a little but I'm guessing my
vibration is mostly due to the 2-blade. BTW, I took another pilot for a
flight and he was impressed at how smooth the engine was. All relative I
guess.

It would appear that the arbitrary changes to the starter motors and
the inability to update the motor mount only prove that configuraton
of the Stratus Subaru is not in the hands of its CEO/dealer/owner.
Not something entirely new, but Riner had a hands on engineering
capability that cannot be carried forward by its new/currrent owner.
The same holds for valve guide problems, that require we go
to RAM for a pre-emptive fix. This is not a criticism, but a reality that
businesses have only the management/engineering ability that are part of
their background or the people that they hire. In this case, the one man
show
at Stratus lacks engineering solutions and a ready technical staff that we
see
evidence in for other engine manufacturer suppliers. Otherwise these things
would be re-engineered and fixed long ago.

Well, sorry to hear things haven't changed. I, too, vented about this nearly
two years ago and expressed my displeasure at Mykal's attitude and didn't get
much sympathy. I was very frustrated at his unwillingness to take responsibility
for change and for his inability to begin to think "aircraft". He is an auto
mechanic who doesn't fly, I think. And at this point I guess it is safe to
say he is a slow learner. don walker hds do not archive

What ticks me off about Mykals comment is that he knew that there was more
load on the upper right mount and he also knew that several had failed. Why
the heck didn't he have a stronger mount made?? Mine failed two years ago,
I notified him and he sent me the same exact mount and he is still sending
out the inadequate mount!! I guess he doesn't realize or doesn't care that
one of those mounts could have had a catastrophic failure leading to engine
stoppage.
I guess I've vented enough!!

Hmmm...Sounds like "valve guide failures part two"....
