Balanced ( I think) the Bing carbs on my Stratus.
I cut the 38" ID hose that connects the two intake manifolds together and
inserted two elbow adapters I made , one for each vacuum gauge.
The first thing I noticed was that with the two manifolds separated, the
engine idles very rough?? Hooking this crossover back up with a coupler and
the idle is nice and smooth??
Anyway, I pressed on and hooked up the gauges again. Have to adjust the
small valves provided (one in each hose to the gauges) to minimize needle
shake which is very severe with out these valves.
At idle and at about 1500 rpm, there was a difference of 1 " hg between the
two vacuum readings. Adjusted the idle stops and got them both the same at
all rpm's.
Hard to tell if it made any difference to the overall vibration.
So now without the prop the only vibration (not very much) is at 2200 rpm.
- Not enough to shake my vertical card compass.
Put the prop back on and went for a flight.
I have vibration (compass shaking) starting at around 3100, turns to a
drone at 3200, increases to a steady vibration at 3500 and then decreases
up to about 3800 then is gone above that. I don't have these vibrations
with the prop off so I guess my next step is the dynamic balance.

Bill,
Thanks for the update, yup looks like it's the prop / spinner balance.
Keep us posted.
