--> Stratus-List message posted by: "Larry McFarland" <larrymc@qconline.com>
Hi guys,
Has anyone with the Stratus engine and with Ram Performance
heads and Bing Carburetors have any data on what jet sizes they finally ended up
using afterward? The original Stratus comes with 162 main and 40 needle jet
Bing standard sizes are 165, 170, 175 etc. Bing suggested trying 170 to 180
for main jets when EGTs are reaching 1500. Stratus considers a
more conservative two size increase. Would be interested
in knowing what others have arrived at here.
Thanks all,
Larry McFarland - 601HDS

Hi Larry,
I have not had my heads re-worked yet but I'll give you my 2 cents anyway.
When I simply moved my clip one notch it had a huge difference in the color
of my plugs. Before moving my clips my plugs were dry and very light tan
color. And now they are black and slightly wet also. If I remember correctly
from my ultralight days, moving the clip one notch is equal to changing the
main jet one size. When flying my Challenger with the Rotax 503 I had to
have three different sets of main jets, one set for winter, one set for
summer, and a third set for spring & fall. I'm not sure if these alt comp
carbs require jet changes for different seasons or not???
So my advise would be to make gradual adjustments here, and keep an eye on
the plugs as you go.
Have a great 4th!
Kelly
