I just got my heads back from Ram so I will be making some adjustments here
as well.
I haven't yet had the carbs apart. To access the clip on the needle, do you
simply remove the two screws at the top chamber of the carb and the chamber
lifts off giving you access to the needle?
Did anyone have to play around with the idle mixture?
Thanks, Hugh

Hi Larry,
I have not had my heads re-worked yet but I'll give you my 2 cents anyway.
When I simply moved my clip one notch it had a huge difference in the color
of my plugs. Before moving my clips my plugs were dry and very light tan
color. And now they are black and slightly wet also. If I remember correctly
from my ultralight days, moving the clip one notch is equal to changing the
main jet one size. When flying my Challenger with the Rotax 503 I had to
have three different sets of main jets, one set for winter, one set for
summer, and a third set for spring & fall. I'm not sure if these alt comp
carbs require jet changes for different seasons or not???
So my advise would be to make gradual adjustments here, and keep an eye on
the plugs as you go.
Have a great 4th!

Hugh,
I'd recommend you call Bing at 1-800-309-2464 and order a Bing Service
Manual
to help guide you through the process of tuning and jetting. $8.95 I called
Bing and
they sell jets that increase the 162 jets generally installed in the Stratus
to 165, 170, 175 etc.
I installed 170 and havn't yet moved the needle circlip. If you havn't
already, it'd be a good
thing to either put EGT sensors in the exhaust pipes about 3-1/2" rearward
of the port or
do a Colortune test window plug to get a sense of exactly what's going on
mixture wise. I use EGT
sensors and find that with 170 jets, the high rpm temps don't reach the 1550
at max rpms of 5100.
Today, I ordered the 165s and another set of float bowl gaskets with the
prospect of moving the circlip down one on the needle to widen the
enrichment rpm band.
Keep us up on what you find out in your effort to fly cool.
Good luck,
Larry McFarland @ www.macsmachine.com
