Dear Listers,
There are only a couple more days left until the official end of this
year's Matronics List Fund Raiser. At the end of the month I compile and
post a list of all the members that made a Contribution to support the
Lists. Won't you take a moment and make sure your name is on that
list? Its your support that keeps these Lists up and running 24x7x365.
The List Contribution Site is easy and fast and most importantly
secure. You can make your donation with a credit card, PayPal, or by
sending in a personal check. For complete information, please see the URL

Just normal tools.Easy job..I heated my alu gear in the oven on about
150F before I dropped the bearings in...Virtually fell into place,
Frank

Danny,
Go back & search the achieves as I believe this was discussed here about

Before we get carried away and think that changing the main jet size
will solve all the mixture problems....It won't.
Yes the main jet will have SOME effect over the mid range but only a
little. Remember the main jet controls flow from 3/4 to full throttle.
The first thing you have to do is to determine where 3/4 throttle
actually is in relation to your normal cruise. I normally cruis at
4400RPM and this was a little under 3/4 throttle.
My most important stting therefore was the mid range. This is controlled
by the postion of the needle and the size of the MID range jet...I had
to go up several sizes on the mid range jet and one or two sizes on the
main jet to get the mixtures correct, using the enrichener as a guide.
The other way to do this is to install a $30 oxygen sensor in each pipe
and buy the guage from summit racing...It means welding a bung in each
pipe which I did after I did it the hard way. Mine were pretty close
using the Bing method but it took most of an afternoon/evening to
finally get it right.
As to the colortune this only works for the idle mixture setting, which
is almost irrelavent in an airplane engine. It does give you a place to
start though.

thanks Larry. I'll increase my main jet size, get a Bing manual, and
now I am reminded that the needle has to go up to increase flow in the
midrange if needed. I'll do the main jets first. don

Don,
What you describe is detailed to some exactitude on page 18 of the
Bing
Carburettors Aircraft tuning and
parts manual. Picking up power with the enriching circuit (choke)
suggests
you're running lean if the EGTs
are reduced. If you lower the needle, you will lean the engine
further and
risk damage to the engine. They recommend doing only one thing at a
time.
I'd consider just another size jet first. I'm using 170s and my
needle is on 3, one notch from the richest setting. Not being
satisfied
with trying to estimate by EGTs, I'm going to purchase a Colortune
plug from
Bing Monday. Then it might be possible to see better what these
changes do.
Yes, a main jet change will affect the midrange. It sound like you
need the
manual from Bing.
Their phone number is 1-800-2464 weekdays 8:30-5:00 CST.

Seems several of the IC107 coils have gone to low resistance on the
primary coil...Less than 1ohm I believe. The coil would still work but
as you say the $300 ND chip will fry itself.
It's a hassle but the TP45 chip wired to the stock PU coil (which will
still be fine) is a much more robust system....You could even continue
to run the old coil but for $50 I think I would change it.

Michel,
I fly the Stratus engine in my 601 and lost my ign in flight at 60 hours
on
the Hobbs. My coil (IC107) failed causing my ICM inside the ND
distributor
to fry it's self.

Listers,
Just a quick note to say that I've caught the great Cashette.Com debacle of
2004 and have tried to clean out all of the pending List email queues of
all the "you are not yet on my Approved List" messages. There were about
117 of them queued when I noticed what was going on.
In a nutshell, this guy signed up for all of the Lists and had a "register
with my site" spam filter enabled on his account. When his account started
receiving List messages, it started sending back, "you need to register"
messages back to the various Lists which in turn went to the Lists which in
turn got sent to the same spam filter which in turn sent back a message
indicating that the List needed to register, and so on and so on until, I
suppose, the Internet just blew up! Sheeze, some of these spam systems are
so brain dead!
Anyway, I've cleaned out all of the messages generated by this thing and
put in a permanent block from this cashette.com website so that this
shouldn't be a problem any longer.
Back to Airplane Discussions! :-)

Danny,
I replaced my redrive bearings last year. It was no too bad and you do not need
any special tooling.
I have a text document and some photos on how I performed the replacement. If you
or anyone else would like these, I will e-mail them directly to you. The zip
file containing the document and photos is a bit large at about 1.7k bytes.
Let me know.
