Subject: | In-flight adjustable-prop for the Stratus |
--> Stratus-List message posted by: Larry McFarland <larrymc@qconline.com>
Hi Stratus users,
I was looking at Sky Shop's offering of the Quinti Avio inflight
adjustable prop which I suspect
would improve the full range of climb and cruise performance in my 601.
I posed the question
to Mykal at Stratus to ask if the inflight adjustable 3-blade prop has
any adverse issues for a Stratus
redrive in the context of weight or belt-drive frequency. His concern
was one of watching the bearings
in the hub more closely. No other issues, aside from an adjusted CG are
apparent.
Has anyone on this list with a Stratus powered 601 been looking at or
flying the Quinti prop or any other
in-flight adjustable on the Stratus? I'm very interested, but for added
weight at the nose gear and mount.

Help! I got the pesky 17mm cylinder head nuts off and want to get the
heads off to send to Ram Performance for new valve guides and springs.
Seems like Stratus torqued those nuts on to about 200 ft lbs.
The heads seem pretty stuck. How do you get them off? I don't see any
other fasteners in the maintenance manual diagrams. I'm not an engine
mechanic and don't want to be one, but the Ram alteration seems worth
the effort.
Thanks in advance,
Ron Hansen

The Ram mod definatly is worth the effort...The sickening feeling the
torque reversal makes as the motor eats a guide makes almost any pain
worth it.
You describe two problems...U say the bolts are torqued up too tight
(meaning you can't undo them?) or the head won't come off after you
taken all the bolts out?
I suspect it's the latter...Have you removed the bolts holding the
rocker arms in place?....also The bolt in the middle under the rocker
shaft?
Beyond that you should be able to beat them off...Use a hammer and block
of wood to beat on the head casting...Do not try to lever between the
head and block.
When you put it back together you will have to grind a 17mm socket way
down so you can torque the center bolt without removing the rocker
arms,,,you will need to re torque the head bolts and re adjust the
valves after 10 hours or so of runnning....when you get the motor back
together that is.
Feel free to call me if you need more help..
