--> Stratus-List message posted by: Larry McFarland <larrymc@qconline.com> Hi Guys, Ive been making air intakes for the ZAC type rabbit radiator installation to satisfy requests from a few Subaru owners. In this last set, I have 4 intakes that havent been committed and post these at $150.00 each. http://www.macsmachine.com/images/completion/full/fairingintake.gif http://www.macsmachine.com/images/completion/full/radintakes4.gif Must begin work on wheel fairings. --> Stratus-List message posted by: "Hinde, Frank George (Corvallis)" <frank.hinde@hp.com> Very good work Larry, Make sure you keep the mold, I can't devote any time to work on the HDS right now (keeping a close eye on the gear legs) due to my next project. But it looks like your intakes are right on track. Will be interesting to see how well your cooling setup works in real life. Frank HDS flying, RV7 Wiring! --> Stratus-List message posted by: Larry McFarland <larrymc@qconline.com> Thanks Frank, There were three items that significantly improved the performance of the Stratus besides Ram Performance valves and guides. The first is the intake which parts the air smoothly and reduces the amount of air going thru the radiator to whats needed, while deflecting air down externally to create a decent negative draft. The louvers add to that negative draft and the combination provides about 10 degrees better cooling than the standard ZAC radiator. Putting the radiator back 34 improved the CG with the Stratus, and I believe it reduces drag as Im able to stay at the 125 mph area without any temp problems in a 70-degree ambient. The third item is the heat-muffler that diverts warm air out of the path of the radiator to the side of the cowl or into the cabin. Flying with and without the heat muffler connected on two 80-degree days made a 7-degree difference. My wheel fairings over the Michelin S83 tires are a narrower elliptic and they provide a 5-mph difference and 3-mph at top end. Ill have to undress the bird and do the progressive airspeed check per GPS. Faster and cooler can be a means to better economy cruising with a Stratus. --> Stratus-List message posted by: "Hinde, Frank George (Corvallis)" <frank.hinde@hp.com> Cool...Yes I am not surprised at all. Many HDS's are faster than mine and if I was keeping the bird I would most definatly be going this way.
