This has happened to me a couple of times. The batteries need to be topped out and a good start should provide the turnover that's needed to initially throw a current that will put the generator on line. If you get strong starts and a light, check the wiring diagram from Zenith. If you don't have one, let me know and I'll send you a copy. I think I may understand what the problem is. I got another response direct to me that may explain the problem. The engine starts so quick that 12v necessary to excite the alt. (that is now there via the start circuit) is not there long enough to do any exciting. It seems that I may have an old wiring diagram. If you can send me a copy of yours I'd appreciate it.
