A follow-up of an earlier e-mail about ignition problems:=C2- I adjusted
my air gap per the recommendation in the following e-mail and sure enough I
HAD SPARK!=C2- Wiring must be correct as I have verified spark all the w
ay to the spark plug.=C2- Thanks everybody for all your help!

I had the same problem after converting my ignitions. I found that the GM m
odules needed a higher voltage to fire and this was not happening at cranki
ng speed. I closed up the air gap to .010 on the pickups and all is well. O
nly negative to doing this is I need to watch for interference between the
pickup and reluctor as the upper shaft bushing wears. I had a failure of th
is bushing previously due to lack of lubrication. I disassembled numerous d
istributors and found the lower bushing like new and the upper bushings sho
wing various degrees of wear. I consider this a design flaw from Subaru and
I don't have a solution aside from timely inspections. If you want more in
formation on this ignition, I have a link (somewhere) to a great technical
paper. This is how I found the low voltage problem. You need something arou
nd .4 to .5 volt to fire the coil. Unfortunately the pickup is an analog de
vice and the voltage rises with cranking speed. It is NOT a hall effect dev
ice as some others have stated. A hall effect pickup generates a digital (s
quare wave) output with a constant voltage regardless of distributor speed.

Hi John,
You might look at my schematic and see if it helps.=C2- This system deriv
ed of the Paul Messinger plan also worked.
Perhaps there=99s a slight difference in your wiring. See link,

=C2-
Hi all,
=C2-
After completing the dual ignition installation per the Paul Messinger plan
, I am failing to obtain a spark.=C2- I=C2-have 12V to=C2-both the co
il and the TP45 module.=C2- I switched the wires to the second module and
still have no luck.=C2- I also tried a different coil with no luck.=C2
- Any suggestions?
