I believe that seat belts are supposed to show a TSO tag for aircraft use, even in homebuilts. (This should start a discussion!) The automotive harness is likely to be stronger than one for an aircraft, since the car's structure is typically stronger. If you think you can get it approved, I say go for it. Don't use the race car belts, they are to big, bulky and the metal hardware is heavy. They also are hard to adjust.
