Eric.....I posted this as somewhat of a joke since I like to pick on you but
the truth is... A LOT of the guys that use this list the most, OR SHOULD
don't give Matt a dime. I once had to go over to Matt's house to look at his
RV project. I had an opportunity to see firsthand all the equipment it takes
to do the job. Everyone would be amazed at the level of complexity and high
quality of the equipment it takes to make these lists happen. Then, add to
that all the newer software that continues to enhance the level of security
and features like the new chat thing. The Matronics archives are definitely
easier to browse than Fricken Yahoo...AND WITHOUT ALL THOSE DAMN BANNERS on
EVERY SINGLE POST. The only feature that the Forum has that we all seem to
like is the ability to attach a photo to an email post. I doubt that will
ever change with Matronics' lists but if we just practiced sending photos to
the fileshare thing we would get good at it AND they would never leave the
archives.
I guess this post got a little long but I have to say that since we got on
Yahoo Groups, my level of spam has exploded. I also noticed that Yahoo at
will, changed my personal account settings (along with others) and that we
need to be vigilant with what they do with our settings. I'm sick and tired
of ALL the damn spam.
So, in closing my little rant session here........ I would just like to
encourage all of our Tailwind listers to take a minute and do a paypal thing
for 10 or 20 bucks to Matronics... It's fricken painless....

Fred, Thanks for the reminder, my computor had been in
the shop for a power supply. I lost some data, but
nothing business related thanks to CDRW backup disc. I
just made my contribution and got the CDrom archive as
a free gift. The CD is worth what I contributed.

Thanx Brian..... I'm sure Matt will appreciate it... Remember, his thing
with this list stuff is a LABOR OF LOVE... It's not a huge financial
windfall so he can cruise around in all of his 'vettes'.... hahahhaha....

Jim!!!
This is just good...... Like SLAMMING the nails into the coffin. Our engines
(when they are "Screaming") are still only turning 2800 or so...ok, maybe 3,000
rpm <VBG> and I doubt the exhaust note could tell the difference between one
style or the other.
Thanks for bringing it all together in one nice paragraph....

Guy, all this exhaust talk is nothing but BS. Take the time, about a month or
more to build such a thing, and use it to do something constructive. I've made
round, oval, tapered and some with holes in the outlet. They all worked the
same as far as I could tell. All of these were on the outlet end, the idea of
using square for the complete system is out of the question as far as the availability
of the mandrel bends and cost. Have you ever seen a nice bend in a piece
of square the wasn't choked down on the inside and outside radius? We aren't
running race engines at 9000 rpm where the exhaust exit gets critical, just
a small CI engine at 2800 RPM. If using a Lycoming, use a crossover system or
4 separate pipes, on a 4 cylinder Cont you can run each side out the same pipe.
Read Kent Poser's book on how to go fast, note his part on exhaust. There is
all kinds of things to do with the outlets, but it also is a big tradeoff. Some
work at altitude, others at sea level. He did pick up a lot of speed from
where he started but remember one thing, a clean TW out of the box is 25 MPH faster
than his Mustang II when he started. You can get more performance gain with
a good set of engine baffles and a little effort than screwing with a almost
impossible exhaust system. Jim C

Dave, I was thinking about incorporating the "step header" concept on my exhaust,
worth a try in mild steel, worked on cars.
