Haven't felt an earthquake in years. Always thought they were a good time. Wishin' it would rain some more, no mudslides and I guess since the fires in SOUTHERN California went away, we haven't even had a good weenie roast. BTW, I have noticed the same delay in getting mail to the forum... Frankly, it's pissing me off........... Yeeeeehaaaaaa, Weav Flying lots too..... I expect to see lots of hours on your tach when I visit..... ----- Original Message ----- From: "George Turner" <tailwind222@yahoo.com> Subject: Re: Tailwind-List: Test > --> Tailwind-List message posted by: George Turner <tailwind222@yahoo.com> > > Fred, thanks, my Yahoo email is taking up to a day to travel. --> Tailwind-List message posted by: "Hjelle" <hjelle@dotnet.com> Back in the 30's, Wittman switched engines on the "Chief". The original engine was an American Cirrus of about 100HP. He replaced it with a Cirrus Hermes of 115HP. The Hermes engine ended up in my dad's barn for years and before it was put on display at EAA I had the task of cleaning it up. The engine has a long RECTANGULAR intake manifold and I asked Steve why. He told me that he originally had built a round manifold but when he ran the engine it wouldn't it wouldn't pull as much rpm as with the smaller engine. He hastily built the rectangular one you can see today and it worked. My opinion is that the round intake made the air flow too straight causing the fuel to drop out of atomization. Note the shape of virtually any automotive intake port, it is rectangular. Using the same logic on exhaust manifold, leads me to believe round pipes will exit the gases the easiest. Changing the shape of the outlet will change the back pressure and the tone. The trick is to reduce the db without reducing the hp.

    Subject: Re:Contributors to the list??
--> Tailwind-List message posted by: Eric Schlanser <eschlanser@yahoo.com> Fred...I too would rather see the group use the Matronics list. The search engine is way better. The picture posting is the only advantage and now yahoo dumps those from the archive. So as far as I am concerned, matronics is as good on pictures too. Eric - sending Matt a contribution as soon as I can do not archive Fred Weaver <Mytyweav@earthlink.net> wrote: --> Tailwind-List message posted by: "Fred Weaver" Eric.....I posted this as somewhat of a joke since I like to pick on you but the truth is... A LOT of the guys that use this list the most, OR SHOULD don't give Matt a dime. I once had to go over to Matt's house to look at his RV project. I had an opportunity to see firsthand all the equipment it takes to do the job. Everyone would be amazed at the level of complexity and high quality of the equipment it takes to make these lists happen. Then, add to that all the newer software that continues to enhance the level of security and features like the new chat thing. The Matronics archives are definitely easier to browse than Fricken Yahoo...AND WITHOUT ALL THOSE DAMN BANNERS on EVERY SINGLE POST. The only feature that the Forum has that we all seem to like is the ability to attach a photo to an email post. I doubt that will ever change with Matronics' lists but if we just practiced sending photos to the fileshare thing we would get good at it AND they would never leave the archives. I guess this post got a little long but I have to say that since we got on Yahoo Groups, my level of spam has exploded. I also noticed that Yahoo at will, changed my personal account settings (along with others) and that we need to be vigilant with what they do with our settings. I'm sick and tired of ALL the damn spam. So, in closing my little rant session here........ I would just like to encourage all of our Tailwind listers to take a minute and do a paypal thing for 10 or 20 bucks to Matronics... It's fricken painless.... It will help support the Baraboo Gang and also let corporate/Culvers know what is going on nationwide with these flying guys to support their franchise. That guy could even have a subaru and get a ride. Or, big ass square tubing or worse yet, a reduction drive working with a Corvair.... And they would still get a ride into town for lunch. I remember when an acquaintance of mine (scared to say a friend, hahhahhaha) flew into Baraboo with a big Yellow High wing shitbox and the guys took him into town(Culvers) for a burger... Seems like he said he was from the "Bay Area" and Jim started probing...... Sure enough, he figured out who Barry was... hahahhahhaha.... The rest of the story is out there for Jim. I think Culvers holds some real interesting history somewhere within it's walls...... Wishin' I had a cheeseburger......... Weav
