In that case, you would receive two messages but from different lists. I would sincerely like to only post to the Matronics site... In fact, I'm glad you posted this one... I'm going to cancel out of the forum now... Thanks George... Forty-one degrees, crystal clear, and a light breeze. I celebrated by finally cutting the umbilical cord that had me tethered to the airport and took a sight seeing trip around northern Indiana. From my modest altitude of 3000 ft AGL I could see at least fifty lakes some quite large. Blue jewels set in the snow. I found my house and then I found the airport again and so on for two hours. Just getting comfortable with this part of the world. There is an east-west railroad track, the Baltimore-Ohio, that crosses Indiana that will damn near take me back to the airport. Ain't that cool. N6PJ performed beautifully but the fresh air vent on the pilots side leaked badly. Otherwise I would still be up there right now. I wanted to find out for real what this 0-200 powered W-8 would do. At 3200 MSL in level flight for ten minutes at full throttle, the rpm climbed to 2900 and the speed reached 175 indicated. After all that fun, I made my first landing on an icy runway and obviously have lived to talk about it. I am so stoked. Tomorrow, after fixing the vent, I may fly north for about 40 minutes and take a look at Lake Michigan. Jerry P.S. I am going to double post this on both lists. I would appreciate it if you would e-mail back either Matronics or Yahoo just to get a feel what is going on. Thanks. ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ - From: "Fred Weaver" Subject: Re: Tailwind-List: Finally a day to brag about --> Tailwind-List message posted by: "Fred Weaver" Great Stuff Jerry.... It's simple... They need to get off the freekin Yahooo forum and get back to the original Tailwind List. I no longer want to deal with both lists. Matt has really tried to put the red carpet out and I think we should take advantage of it. It's everything we ever wanted without all that yahoooo crap in our emails...... AND I loved the Weaver Rocket... Hahahaha... Gotta tell you it was a tremendous amount of fun today. Such incredible power and speed. The Tailwind is damned near as fast but this Rocket can go straight up for a long way....and then roll over, come back and chase a cloud etc etc......... Ok.... I had a good time. BTW, I saw the barely visible... "The Tailwinds are out of control".. ! It was somewhat camoflauged it the background. Only a few can really enjoy that one. I still think it was the controllers and the T6's that were out of control. hahahahahaha.. If you would simply keep flying that nice little W8, you wouldn't ever have to go thru all the headaches in front of you with the Rotary. I can just see that rotary all spun up....delivering a million horsepower and the catapult shoots you off... Wow! Your wings are swept back to reduce drag and the climb is outrageous! God, you can make it to Baraboo in twenty minutes! Oh damn, you have to get that thing cooled too???? Oh shit.. Steam is getting on the windshield and freezing, making visibility so crappy.. Damn, damn, damn..... Maybe you can land on Lake Winnebago..........since it's frozen over. Of course all this can only happen during winter months. Oh, you can't make it?? Maybe Meigs Field is an option? No... they will rape you if you touch down there. Better try to limp back to Indiana where the RR tracks can point you towards home field... Then you could strap on the W8 and go back up to Baraboo for a lunch at Culvers.. That's the nice thing about a Tailwind, it can actually do all that stuff in a period of time so you won't be late for lunch. :) Weav ----- Original Message ----- From: Jerry Hey To: TailwindForum@yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, December 26, 2003 3:42 PM Subject: Re: [TailwindForum] Finally a day to brag about John, The 0-200 gets this 750 lb airplane airborne in a few hundred feet. The climb out is not bad either but I don't have a VSI. I would guess around 750 ft per min but that could be way off. Based on my airplane's logs, I would have to say that short fields and high density altitudes are nothing to be particularly worried about. However, I don't think you would get the same performance out of a 0-200 powered W-10, because it is a heavier airplane. A very light W-10 could be built. There is one in Texas that is around 800 lbs, I am told and is intended to be powered by a 65hp Cont. This does not sound like a good idea to me but I am watching to see how it turns out. Personally, I liked the idea of the turbo-charged 0-200. Someplace this side of 10,000 ft, assuming turbo normalizing, you would be developing more h.p. than Fred's n.a. 0-360. The big advantage of the 0-200 is that the engine is light enough that a constant speed prop could be employed. That would help with the take off and climb out. If you want guaranteed great performance, get an 0-320. An 0-320 powered W-10 is about as good as it is going to get.......well, until my 220 hp rotary is strapped onto a W-10.
