Several areas of the existing cowl require rework to obtain a more consistant shape. The left side of the cowl near the air inlet was 1/4" low causing the tunnel to appear to have a dogleged shape. The flat surface on the left was cut loose and repositioned, then the tunnel was reformed to obtain equal curvature. The area of the air inlet was moved forward to match the right side of the cowl and both air inlets have been recontoured to make them match. A preformed bow at the firewall is being molded in to match what builders are doing to the fuselage and windshield area. More pictures and progress reports will follow. ===== BRIAN ALLEY (N320WT) CARBON FIBER COMPOSITES How are you going to win by a nose if you don't stick out your neck? ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 11:45:32 AM PST US From: Brian Alley Subject: Tailwind-List: Carbon Fiber Composites Cowl 02 TailwindForum Inlet pictures and more of the tunnel. ===== BRIAN ALLEY (N320WT) CARBON FIBER COMPOSITES How are you going to win by a nose if you don't stick out your neck? ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 11:57:16 AM PST US From: Brian Alley Subject: Re: Tailwind-List: trim Consider putting the trim handle between the seats and the spring under the seats. Had to hold slight nose down pressure the last 10 minutes of the longest leg. It makes me think that I might be able to raise the leading edge of the H-stab a little bit. Otherwise it has worked perfectly. ===== BRIAN ALLEY (N320WT) CARBON FIBER COMPOSITES How are you going to win by a nose if you don't stick out your neck? ________________________________ Message 8 _____________________________________ Time: 01:03:22 PM PST US From: IslPilot@aol.com Subject: Re: Tailwind-List: trim Great workmanship Brian. It keeps the tension the same no matter how much you use the trim. It looks very clean. When the time comes can you supply the cowl to me without the tunnel? The rotary's radiator fits under the engine with an inlet scoop just below the spinner. The rad will have adjustable louvers that will open into the air stream under the rad. All of this is to be blended with the cowl belly. If I mock up the inlet scoop and belly portion and bring it to you, would you be interested in doing the modifications?
