In Illinois, we have the same situation. Tax is owed on items purchased out of state. It's been that way for years. The only problem for the state is that there is no real way to find out who bought what, unless you have to register the item with the state. Aircraft have to be registered so they have you. Counselor inspection. He and Ken Uptegraff spent about two hours here going over everthing. The local who thought he could get away with fudging the tax, only had to pay the state $4400.00 in penalties and compound interest that had accumulated on the $400.00 that he should and could have paid in the first place.
