Having done quite a bit of composite work, I highly
recommend you lay the cloth on the wing dry and
squeege the resin thru the cloth. If you apply the
resin first it will be very sticky and you will find
it near imposible to prevent air from being trapped
under the cloth once it becomes wet. Wrinkles in the
fabric will result. I always put the first layer of
cloth in my molds before applying resin. An extra tip
you will find helpful is to dab or pat the surface of
excess resin with folded up paper towls. Use the cheap
ones as they leave less paper fibers on your layup.
The areas where there is excess resin will show up as
wet shiney spots. Mix small batches or resin and work
from one end of the wing to the other smoothing out
the fabric as you go. Have a helper to mix resin and
maybe someone to dab or pat the areas you have already
wetted out before the resin begins to kick.

I'll second Brian's recommendations and add one of my own.
On big lay-ups I sometimes premix several batches of resin and
store the batches in zip lock baggies in the refrigerator.
When the next batch is needed, pour the cool resin into a shallow
bowl, let it warm up a bit (you can tell by observing the viscosity
of the resin), and go for it.

Brian, My pictures were of the finished wing, Dry glass lay-up as you
stated, resin forced through the glass cloth. Thanks for clarifying for
the rest of the group. Dave Conrad

I highly recommend coating the wing with west system and letting it
completely dry for several days and then sand it with some med. paper.
(Make sure this is a very thin cote.) This will seal the wood and
prevent air bubbles coming up through the cloth when you apply it dry.
(resin forced through with squeegee. Dave Conrad

You'll note that says Fulton Snow. That's where our Chapter 486 Hangar is. Went
to a Chapter Diner there last week. The President got up an stated " Don't worry
in Fulton if you can get in you can usually got out". We got out as soon after
the Dinner as possible.
