Rotary engines have not had the greatest appeal in the past and some of their troubles even though solved still stick with the product. Most of the problems have been with the prop drives and extremely high fuel consumption. We would print more rotary articles if others asked for them or if some one submitted one, so far there doesn't seem to be much interest. Norm Hi and thanks for your letter. It demonstrates the arrogance and ignorance of Custom Plane. Norm presents himself as an expert but really is unaware of the real action on the auto conversion front. His comments about prop drives and fuel consumption are simply wrong. We have had a wonderful prop drive for years. It is not a problem, period. Also, the modern rotary engine consumes fuel at nearly the same rate as a Lyc putting out the same power. Sometimes I stay north until I pass the Grand Tetons as the ride is so gorgeous, especially this time of the year. The Wind River Canyon, just North and West of Riverton is a sight you won't ever forget. I'm based at Westover Airport, O70 near the towns of Jackson and Sutter Creek. I'm about 100 miles east of Oakland. Racing now? Nah..... I'm working on my spinner backplate assembly. Hope to have the Tailwind back in the air in a couple weeks. Closed escrow on my old house yesterday......Feeling like a FREE man now..... Look forward to seeing you out here. I believe I overhauled 4 engines during the early days. Mazda, in a class action suit, paid out millions. That memory raises questions as Norm is pointing out. Most folks now know the world is not flat--it takes time to prove a point. I think a good article to Custom Planes featuring Tracys RV4 and others might result in the article being published and hence changing Norm's mind--at least make him more open minded which could make others look at the best engine going--the Mazda rotary. Jerry, Paul, Tracy, how about it?
