No date set yet. Maybe this fall. Need to get Fred to quit flying around and
buying airplanes, and settle on a good date for the event.

Dennis,
I'm in the process of rebuilding a W-8 tailwind with W-10 wings. Being a long time A&P mechanic, I wasn't very comfortable with not being able to see inside the wing for inspection. So I added two 3"X 5" inspection holes per wing. They were added using AC 43.13-1b para. 1-51 plug patch instructions (fig 1-17) with a removeable cover. By strategicaly locating them, you can reach almost anything inside the wing. The Advisory circular is available at the www.faa.gov web site.

Subject: Tailwind-List: A need for airspeed.
Last year while flying the orange tailwind my pitot line became disconnected
at the point where the line makes the 90 degree turn at the face of the front
spar inside the wing. The summer flying season is here and at some point I'd
like to have a working airspeed indicator. Probably a low pressure hose makes
the turn and no accommodation was made for when the hose dried and lost it's
grip on what appears to be a nyflow plastic line leading to the cockpit. There
is no access to this point and it seems that the only way to reconnect this line
is to cut a hole through the plywood skin and install a small inspection plate.
It seems a shame to cut a hole in this beautifully built wing but I see
no option. It's an obvious lesson that anytime you install hardware inside an
inaccessible structure, it has to be done right the first time.
Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks Dennis Vest

Is anyone interested in hosting the West Coast Flyin at their hangar? I will provide
the food if we can get someone to set up a BBQ, and maybe some help with
sodas or something. We can have it at Yolo County for the third year, but it
may be more interesting to change locations. I was thinking of just a lunch
and bull session, look at airplanes, fly-bys or whatever? Just as informal
as in the past.

OK OK OK..... I'm currently staying in Cheyenne, WY waiting for the ceiling
to lift. The Rans S7 is running terrific and we are averaging 85 kts as we head
West. If I'm going to be the one putting on the West Coast Tailwind fly-in
this year, it will have to be sometime in late Sept or October. And I doubt that
we can enjoy the festivities at O70, my home airport. Politics there are pathetic
as far as "Sport" flying is concerned. The airport manager and I are having
a tough time staying on the same page. So, I'd have to find another location
to support the event.
Have fun....
Will catch up with you all soon..
Trip report after I get back...
Bristol, TN to Bowling Green, KY to Sullivan, MO to Lawrence, KS to the Rans
Factory strip in Hays, KS to Oakley, KS to Wray, CO to Pine Bluffs, WY to Cheyenne,
Wy. That's where we have been so far... 4.2-4.4 GPH...
