Fred, That's the beauty of the older low powered W8s on a long trip. If you throttle back just a little more than usual you can get out and take a break if you have a set of these. -----Original Message----- From: owner-tailwind-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-tailwind-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Fred Weaver Subject: Tailwind-List: Re Tailwinds and Fred's mpg. George.... I tried to "Reply" to your little picture test thingy... It's obvious that you created it using some kind of Yahooo crap as the reply bounced because it contained "spam" or in other words AD's.... First of all, a picture did NOT show up in your email. Only a little square with a tiny red x in the upper left hand corner. Like Larry and Luc, when I tried to click on it and see the picture, all it did was open up a Yahoo web page picture viewer thing that said my "Session had expired". Yeah right....... Luc is right on all points. This debate should not be about yahoo vs. matronics so much as making a decision to improve communications in our group. Two separate, redundant and competing systems, with double posting and some people only on one or the other and thus missing some messages is intolerable and stupid. Time to move on. Guages are all over the map. You need to carefully top off your tank and provide the actual amount of gas used. You will be glad you did. BTW, you are probably running too rich. You old hotrodder, what does your exhaust look like AND what do your plugs tell you? I'll bet you could really make that thing sing.... Jack, The 160 is flat out 2750 rpm and 1500 ft. That is with no fairings except the wing roots though. It's got potential. -Danny On 9/13/2004 12:25:49 PM, tailwind-list@matronics.com wrote: > Hi group, Why does Danny's W8 go so fast? Jack, I was just guessing since Rick didn't really give us a number. I know better.... I owned the sister ship and with a Lyc 0-290 D2, the fastest I could cruise or top out was 163 mph. I can imagine Dan's plane going maybe 160 or a bit slower. But his rate of climb will be nothing to write home about. Right Rick???? --> Tailwind-List message posted by: "DaveM" <dmagaw@att.net> That's how I like to fly--2600/2650 RPM, and about 2500' AGL. I like to see the ground go by. To heck with economy, though I do lean it some. I just wish there weren't so many bugs at those altitudes. I also don't have a marathon bladder or iron butt, so I land every couple hours or so--more worse economy! But I like it that way. Jim C, I noticed in the Air Tech manual the need for venting all cavities to remove solvent vapors. Is this a problem with the closed bays on the control surfaces? Paul pholmes@wmis.net

I saw one exactly like that at a rubber band meet and it flew better than the real expensive ones. How many Tailwinds attended the Mich. fly in? Fred, if you don't get the Tailwind from England, maybe this guy in Australia will sell you His. They both look like they would be super of fuel mileage. --> Tailwind-List message posted by: "Jim and Donna Clement" <168x@merr.com> I just talked to Forest Lovley and he has his TW for sale. It is very similar to Dennis Flamini's. It has a O320 B2B 160hp with about 800 TT and 70 SMOH. 700 on the airframe, KX155 navcom, spare spinner and nosebowl. It is 4" wider than a regular TW but not higher like Dennis's. This is a real nice TW, he is asking in the $30-$35,000 range. It also has a new wood prop. His phone number is 952 492 6126 Minneapolis area. email is ftlovley@aol.com Jim C

    Subject: control rod
Here is the fix on my control rod. First picture is the fork end. Upper fork is .072 and one piece. The fork on the bottom is .035 two pieces and the bottom piece is not welded save for what amounts to a tack, all this and ground on too. The next picture shows over all comparison, what was there is .25 dia and thick enough wall to cut threads for the 3/16s rod end. I made the replacement .5x.035 with 5/16 bolt welded in for the rod end. What was there weighs 2 oz, the new one as you see it weighs 5 oz. You can build some things too light for the duty they will see. (My landings) -Danny
