Fred,
Thanks for the tips. I'm getting pretty much the same advice about getting accustomed
to the controls before shooting real approaches. I am getting closer
but still not quite ready to make the jump to hyperspace. The outfit I am going
to this week has a Citabria I will spring for also. Baby steps, baby steps.
No way would I have been able to get this plane going again without Rick
Crosslin. He's brung me this far, no reason to stop listening to him now.

Why aren't you flying your Tailwind?? It's a lot nicer to fly than a Cub or
a Champ.... The speed is quite different however... Landings in a Tailwind aren't
full stall "Plops" though... Are you learning to briskly wheel land in
the "Trainers"? Once you can do that, you will love the transition to the Tailwind.
Just go fly it by yourself with a full tank of gas... Go get comfortable
with coordinated turns and the variety of stalls. After an hour or two (without
shooting any landings) practice your approaches and get used to the speed
and power requirements to fly final at 75 mph and 400 fpm down... Make a couple
of "Aborted" landings starting a couple of hundred feet off the ground so
you get used to the transition from descending to full power climbing while you
gently remove the flaps from their landing position. You will then be fine
to "slide it on" in a 3 point attitude.
Your money will go A LOT FARTHER before you go broke... That's the beauty
of a Tailwind.
Good Luck,
Weav
PS.. Make sure Rick approves of what I wrote.. He has flown with you and can
be a better judge of your skills at this point. But if you can.....fly the Tailwind.

Fast Fred,
Yep, Photoshop. While we were playing I though I'd do one. Tailwinds don't
need any help to look good though, especially yours. That classic look is the
hook that kept me coming back. I picked up a tidbit of information here and
there, and now I live, eat and breathe Tailwinds. Maybe when I get to flying
mine this utter obsession will let up some. I will be getting around to painting
mine one of these days; right now I am working on tail wheel proficiency.
I got 3.5 hours in this week in a Cub and a Champ, hope to get that much more
this week. There is no substitute for good dual instruction, so I am staying
after it until I go broke, which will be soon. I may have to hitch-hike to
Malcolms. :-)

What a story........ A long one that I will shorten up considerably... I
left the airplane in a hangar at TPL(Temple, TX).. Presidential TFR plus the
weather that cropped up between Texas and New Mexico etc was too much for me..
It's safe and sound for about two weeks when I will go back down and fly it
the rest of the way home. It's full of gas and full of charts, ready to go.
Sorry I didn't make it to Pampa, we'll try it again.

This piece will be glued and also screwed into the square aluminum tube
above. The hinge pin gets safety wired to a small hole in the bracket.
