It could take me a couple of weeks to finish getting the engine buttoned up and hauled out here to the house. Would you please start thinking about making a trip to my place to help me with the cowling? Actually, it'll probably be more like me helping you by getting you a beer every now and then, 'glas work is my short suit. Let me know what items need to be purchased before hand, I'll get them delivered here. If you need to review any pics of the cowl, let me know and I'll send them to you. Should be a beautiful flight for you this time of year, for sure. Sorry O-O is taking so long, guys, life has thrown me a few knuckle balls lately, most of them have hit me on the chin. What kind of fuel cap is most recommended Which flush Cherry rivets or other brand pop rivets do you use to fix the different aluminum panels to the door and side walls and all the other riveted fixes. Have you tried the 90 adapter for the oil filter for Lyc 0-320 and wich size of the adaptor plate is best? Thanks in advance for all these answers. Guido ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 08:54:38 AM PST US Subject: Tailwind-List: Rotary update From: Jerry Hey I reassembled my engine today without the rotors. Reassembly took about 2 hours. Here is what the p ported rotary looks like in front of a Tailwind. It all fits together rather nicely. The rad will go underneath the engine and the intake runners will go over the top. The rear engine mount strut is carried up to a place on the firewall which will require a great deal of stiffening. If one wanted to do so, a turbo could be substituted for the exhaust system. The turbo/P-Port combo can generate up to 800 hp. it is claimed. Just fly straight up for one minute and level off at 12,000. What do you think, Fred? I got it from Wicks. It's not expensive, but it needs to be modified to allow for the attachment to the tank. > Which flush Cherry rivets or other brand pop rivets do you use to fix thedifferent aluminum panels to the door and side walls and all the other riveted fixes. I used Avex 1/8" rivets to fasten the aluminum to the door frame, but any blind rivet will do. Aluminum rivets would be plenty strong. If you want flush rivets, these will likely come from some aircraft supply place, but if a protruding head is acceptable to you, then a commercial rivet will work. > Have you tried the 90 adapter for the oil filter for Lyc 0-320 and wich size of the adaptor plate is best? I used an adapter made by B&C Specialties of Newton, Kansas. It was certainly not inexpesnive, but it did allow for the temperature sender, vernithern and filter. So far, it has worked well. I hope that this is a bit helpful. I used over 200 tabs on my tailwind. Just think of any place you need to attach something to the primary structure and add tabs. About 4-6 inch spacing is probably adequate for most things. However many you add, you will wish you had added a few more when final assembly comes. In that respect, Jim's photos are priceless. They show what he's figured out over the course of building (how many?). The challenge now is for the newbie builder to figure out what he (or she?) is looking at in the photo. Why is this detail done that way, and how do I do it?
