--> Tailwind-List message posted by: "William Bernard" <billbernard@worldnet.att.net> Dennis, I think my round trip of 580 nm used 32.6 gallons. I was running about 62-63% power so the trip time was 4.67 hours. Maybe I should just run it harder and get there faster. the gas mileage doesn't seem to drop off that much. --> Tailwind-List message posted by: Mcculleyja@aol.com John, My wings on N-5566 are the rounded bottom wings of the later W-8 style but the span is 22.875 feet, partly because of the wider fuselage of mine and Dennis' which were built oversize in the late '60's. --> Tailwind-List message posted by: Mcculleyja@aol.com Dennis, I used 29.9 gallons in 3.7 Tach time for my 591nm round trip distance, but as you know I didn't do any rides or local area flying. I'm interested also. Red Hamilton ----- Original Message ----- From: Richard Brown To: tailwind-list@matronics.com Sent: Sunday, October 10, 2004 9:21 AM Subject: Re: Tailwind-List: N540CJ Hi Robert! That flooring material sounds like good stuff! Do you know how much it will cost for the 4x8 sheet? Thanks, Dick Brown ----- Original Message ----- From: ROBERT MATTESON To: tailwind-list@matronics.com Sent: Saturday, October 09, 2004 7:31 PM Subject: Re: Tailwind-List: N540CJ The lightest material I have found for floors is the material that is used for floor panels in airliners. It is a honeycomb material with fiberglass face sheets and runs about 3/8" thick. It is extreemly rigid, probably as strong as plywood, and is very light. It comes in 4'x8" sheets and can be worked with ordinary wood cutting blades. I don't known of any source details, but I could look into it if there was enough interest. I can purchase it by the sheet through my employer if enough people wanted it to make it worth while to buy a whole sheet. Bob Matteson W-8 N84CD ----- Original Message ----- From: CJ Kirby Memphis Tailwind To: Tailwind List Sent: Saturday, October 09, 2004 5:04 AM Subject: Tailwind-List: N540CJ We have finished tacking the fuse. I like working with wood much better! Skip has really become proficient with the TIG welder. We started on the tail feathers today. Hope to have them done next week. We have been thinking about the control stick. Does anyone have thoughts on using a single center stick, with dual throttles on the L/R? We plan on using a CS prop. Looks like a Whirlwind 151 composite. 28lbs! Wow that's light. We love the Whirlwind prop Skip has on his Pitts. Whirlwind is one of our sponsors, and we get questions, and remarks about the prop at every airshow. I cant say enough about the quality, and a 3 blade white Whirlwind will look great with the design of our TW. Also, has anyone flown the TW with one or more of the doors removed? (At low speeds of course). I ask because we will be using it as a photo ship, and hope to remove the right door for the photographers to get air to air photos of Skip performing aerobatics. I guess we will find out if it works in a few months. Does anyone have a heated Piper style bladed pitot tube laying around for sale? What is the best/lightest/strongest material to use for flooring in the cabin, and baggage compartment? Has any one used a dual toe brake set-up, and are there any concerns? Thanks for reading and replying to this long email. I waited until the weekend so I could get some of you guys out of some HoneyDos. CJ Kirby memphistailwind@bellsouth.net N540CJ
