Jim, wow that is moving, what was your ground speed on the way home. That is
about 184 MPH average for the trip.

Hi TW listers,
Just wondering if anyone out there makes, or would be interested in making,
fairings for the wing strut to wing intersection... and, for those that
have them, has anyone done any tests to determine what performance gain
there was by fairing this part of the structure ? I'm guessing 2 mph or
so...

Tom,
I removed and made a flat pattern of the fairing at one of the last fly-ins and
it is a really easy part to make.
If you want i could place it on file in the yahoo group or send it direct to you.
Only GOD knows if they help the speed !

Hi Malcolm,
The GPS ground speed got up to a high of 197 MPH for about 50 to 75 miles
near the end of the return trip after I was finally able to climb to 6,500 feet
from the 3,500 msl I had to stay at until that point due to the solid overcast
about 1,000 above me. I had hoped to climb to 10,000 or higher for the trip
but the cloud cover was solid overcast most of the way and was so turbulent
that I couldn't run any faster down low.
Thanks again for hosting such a great bunch of TW enthusiasts at your
wonderful Lovelace International! BTW, the honey is about the best I've ever tasted.
Since you build such pretty TW's, are you also a bee keeper?

Jim, glad you like the honey, it comes from our own bees. In retrospect of
your return flight, our return flight back north to Michigan was severe
clear. We climbed up to 4500 with a gps speed of about 122 mph. On the
flight down we were at 3500 with a speed as high as 159 mph at times.

Glad to learn where the honey originated. You certainly travel in class with
two brands of honey on board, one named Lori but the other with no name! Now
all you need is to do this in your future Tailwind---then you'll never wipe
off the big grin!

Jim, you are welcome. We have been bee keepers for 3 years now, my father
kept bees for 72 years before he passed away. That is when we took it up.
The one named Lori is really a good sport about going to airplane stuff with
me. She wants to get her pilots license in the future.
btw, Lovelace International is the shortest strip I have ever been in and
out of, I am glad he doesn't have any trees near either end!
