Yo Chuck and Dave..... We were socked in IFR yesterday because of smoke from
the fires to the east of us.... Hoping the winds will come up from the west to
clear us out. No way we could have flown yesterday... Too dark at the moment
to tell what will happen later this morning. Good thing Fresno was selected
for the event. I will fly down in the Rans S7 Courier... The Tailwind is in the
middle of an annual and I haven't been here to finish it up. Hope to get it
buttoned up next week.
How many Tailwinders are going to show up? Is George coming up from Phoenix? No
Presidential TFR's to deal with now....

Well I got to start the new engine up today. Started and ran just fine, now I've
got to find an oil leak. Looks like it might be around the right mag. Hope to
get it fixed and taxi testing by monday. I may even get to fly it by next weekend
if all goes well........................Bob 149

Subject: | Status of Tailwind Times newsletter??? |
Hello everyone,
Can anyone bring me back up to speed on the status of the Tailwind
Times newsletter??? I've been out of the loop for a while and the
last thing "I thought" I heard or read is that Jerry Hey was going
to change it over to an electronic format or web sight based or
something like that???
I had a paid subscription to the newsletter and I don't care a bit
about the left-over subscription dollars, just don't want to miss
out on any of the information from the group. Every issue was plum
full of excellent info. I really miss it, big time!
So what's the scoop everyone? Please bring me up-to-date.
Very Best Regards,
Spud Spornitz

Subject: | Brian Alley's carbonfiber components.... |
Hello Everyone,
I had the oppurtunity to go out a check out Dan and Daniel Hedge's
Tailwind project of Desoto, Kansas today. Their Tailwind is
progressing nicley and they should be flying in a year or two.
While I was there I was able to closley check out Brian Alley's
carbon fiber cowling, scoop, spinner and instrument panel. I
originally somewhat taken back at the price Dan had paid for these
items, BUT not anymore! No sir! Now I have seen a few cowls for
Tailwinds and quite few more for other aircraft. The fit on these
and the quality of the finish was just superb! Other than trim to
fit (which is very, very minimal), primer and attachment pieces they
are ready to go!
The instrument panel only weighed 1.6 lbs and was very rigid.
Great craftsmenship Brian and thanks for making these components
available. I just love seeing quality stuff!!!
Very Best Regards,

Spud, Thanks so much for the glowing review. I try to
make everything as easy for the builder as possible.
The more work I put into the plugs and molds, the less
finish work the builder has to do. The cost difference
is really in the materials, but the performance gained
from saving weight lasts the life of the airframe!!!
