Jim, are these headers for a big block? also did you use Lycoming flanges or the
ones that came with the headers? BTW, they look great. do they coat the inside
as well as the outside?

Jim, Here is a few exhaust pics. The two front cylinders go into the front
pipe and the two rear go into the pipe that is closest to the oil pan. They
are made from mild steel tubing and ceramic coated by a place in Phoenix. A
sprint car header set for a Chevy V8 from Speedway Motors, part # 418-65600
$94.95 [old price] or you can use the assorted bends, part # 910-13817. The
Chevy set will make two exhaust systems if you are careful.

Alex, Small block with 1 3/4" diameter tubes. Lycoming flanges from Wicks, left
over flanges and collectors use on your next hot rod project. Yes, it coats
inside also.

Jim,
Have you been able to get flight # 2 on the new Tailwind or has the weather
keep you grounded?

Malcolm, Have made about five flights but the weather and runway ice have
slowed things down. Sunny today but it is -6 degrees.

Thanks for the great pictures, Jim. Is that an expansion joint in the
crossover pipe from the #2 cylinder near the right side of engine oil sump? Also,
is that a tailpipe support to the engine mount tubing near the right gear leg
socket?
Any description of the crossover pipe expansion/contraction provisions and
tailpipe vibration/fatigue aspects would be most helpful. Have you had any
problems with any of your previous projects in regard to these aspects that the
rest of us could benefit from getting tips on? Thanks for any enlightment on
these subjects.

Jim, The only joints are the ones in the picture, just above the carburetor.
The tailpipes are fastened to a bracket that is bolted using the oil pan to
case bolts. This bracket also holds the carbheat, mixture and throttle
cable. The bracket has two legs coming down and one going forward and bolted
to a carburetor stud. Make the forward tube removable, otherwise the whole
bracket assy. has to be removed to get the carburetor off. Use rubber
belting between the hanger bracket and the tailpipes.

This is the best I can do to show the exhaust hanger. This pic shows a solid
steel link from the hanger. It has since been changed to a rubber belting
one. The tailpipes should be hung off the engine, not the engine mount.
