<Jim, Here is a few exhaust pics(SNIP)
Thanks for the great pictures, Jim. Is that an expansion joint in the crossover
pipe from the #2 cylinder near the right side of engine oil sump? Also,
is that a tailpipe support to the engine mount tubing near the right gear leg
socket?
Any description of the crossover pipe expansion/contraction provisions and
tailpipe vibration/fatigue aspects would be most helpful. Have you had any problems
with any of your previous projects in regard to these aspects that the
rest of us could benefit from getting tips on? Thanks for any enlightment on
these subjects.
Jim

I have a C-90-14F that I would like to mount a small alternator on, driving
it with a belt pulley on the prop hub/spinner. I just dont want to spend a
ton of money for the B & C version that mounts where the old generator did on
the rear of the engine.
Anyone know of a design to do this?
I am thinking of the Kuboda/John Deere alternator, but perhaps there is a
better idea.
Thanks

Doug.... Try posting to the VariEze list... I think it's Canard Aviators. Several
of those guys use just exactly what you are looking for...
Good Luck,

Yes it will work, we went to a auto salvage yard and scrounged up a v-belt pulley
off a car engine. It has to have a hub as big or bigger than the crankshaft
flange, then drill it to fit over the prop lugs. This was on Russ Hasenbalgs
C-90 Tailwind, it worked great until he crashed it. The pulley was bolted between
the prop flange and extension. I can ask him tomorrow if he remembers more
about it. You might try calling him.

Jim , I hope I don't sound too dumb, but is there a reason that the exhaust pipes
don't go left bank down one side and the right bank down the other side? I
noticed the front cylinders are together in one pipe and the rear cylinders are
together in the other pipe. I was just wandering if the setup you have is cosmetic,
and it looks great I might add, or does it have something to do with ram
tuning or firing order?

This is the best I can do to show the exhaust hanger. This pic shows a solid
steel link from the hanger. It has since been changed to a rubber belting
one. The tailpipes should be hung off the engine, not the engine mount.

Alex, The firing order is the reason for the two front together, two rear together.
It will work with both sets of two going out left and right sides. The reason
I run both out the same side is it gives more heat for the cabin heater and
keeps heat away from the gascolator which is on the left side.
