Current Virginia weather... temp 20 F, 1 inch of snow, overcast, some wind.. I've got the kerosun heater running out in the shop, shop temp about 65 F... not too bad! Have a question for you guys.. Where/how did you attach the shoulder harness mounts??? The harnesses I have use a single mount. I notice in the Clement photos, Jim welded the mounting plate/straps in the outside corners of the rear baggage bulkhead.. This puts an angle off of center for these (instead of coming straight back).. is this where everyone else attached them?? Any problems with this approach?? I know there will need to be some kind of brace/diag tube welded in if I try to bring these shoulder straps straight back to a mounting point. Anyone do this?? Thanks, Dave

Dave, If you decide on the corner mounts you will not be able to tell the difference from centered mounting. My mounts are 1" X 3" .050. Wrap the mounts around the back of the cross tube about half the diameter and angle them to the center of the seat. DAve, I mounted my shoulder harness attachments the same way as Jim C, but I moved the attachment one bay back on the fuselage. There is a 1/8" 1x19 steel cable through the attach fitting that terminates in a clevis in the baggage area for attachment of the harness. This is copied off of the RV-6. It allows the harness - mine is a Y-type - to be centered behind the occupant. The only problem I had with this is that I put the brackets on the top of the fuselage longerons and they made a bump in the fabric. The solution is to either mount them under the longeron or to raise the stringers to give more clearance. I think I'd opt for mounting the bracket under the longeron if I were doing it again. Hope this helps. Might be a overkill, .090 is much stronger than what it is welded to. Your mounts should clear the webbing on the seat belt brackets. 0.26 UPPERCASE_25_50 message body is 25-50% uppercase This is the heater, It is like a funnel wrapped around the exhaust pipe. This picture has a 2 1/2" hose but a 2" works also. It should not fit tight on the small end, you want some air movement thru the funnel so the pipe doesn't get to hot. This is similar to what Steve Wittman used. The one in the picture is a little small but works good. If it is more forward to take in the elbow area it will melt your tennis shoes. Usually take it off for the summer. Jim C

--> Tailwind-List message posted by: Mcculleyja@aol.com Jim, Your cabin heater is certainly clever and couldn't be simpler. Do you have any measured cabin temperatures versus outside air temps (OAT) at altitudes of 10 to 12 thousand when the OAT is zero F (or less) ? Just curious how well that size unit can handle prolonged cruise in such conditions. Based on where you live and how much you fly during the winter, I imagine you have plenty of experience to share on this subject.
