Hi Jerry in SC,
I'm the current owner of Rick Crosslin's W10 (lots of pics of it during
construction on the http://www.j-winddesigns.com/ site). I live in central
NC near Pittsboro on the private grass airstrip Eagles Landing. Be glad
to have you take a look at the pretty bird that Rick built if you are ever
in the area. Just give me a call at 919-542-7590 beforehand..
Thanks,
Thomas

Jim, Donna and I left Baraboo for AZ several years ago when the temp was -23
below zero. I don't remember what altitude we flew at but most likely
8-10,000 feet. Inside temp was 60F. The biggest problem was getting of the
ground before the windshield iced over on the inside. We had a small clear
strip about 6" high along the bottom on TO and it disappeared rapidly and
the frost spread all the way to the windows in the doors before it got
better. A defroster setup would be a good idea or a 12V hair dryer. Jim C

Dave,
I am thinking of welding an attach point to the 3/8 tube in the baggage area
at a point the same distance off center of the fuselage as the pilot's neck.
On the rear of that same clip I am going to have a whole drilled for an attach-point
for an aircraft cable and run that back to the next station which will
have a gusset welded in for the other end of the cable to attach to. It's a little
extra work, but a minimum amount of weight, and it keeps the "Y" type harness
directly behind the pilot. Same has to be done for the pass. seat...Pat

Current Virginia weather... temp 20 F, 1 inch of snow, overcast, some wind..
I've got the kerosun heater running out in the shop, shop temp about 65 F...
not too bad!
Have a question for you guys..
Where/how did you attach the shoulder harness mounts??? The harnesses I have
use a single mount. I notice in the Clement photos, Jim welded the mounting plate/straps
in the outside corners of the rear baggage bulkhead.. This puts an
angle off of center for these (instead of coming straight back).. is this where
everyone else attached them?? Any problems with this approach??
I know there will need to be some kind of brace/diag tube welded in if I try
to bring these shoulder straps straight back to a mounting point. Anyone do this??
Thanks,
Dave

Pat,
I just got in from the shop. Welded in the belt mounts. I went with Jim Clement's
info he wrote and went to the corners of the rear baggage bulkhead. I used
a .062 x 1.00 x 4.50 strap for each corner. Tacked them in place where they were
lined up with the center of the seats, formed the rear ends 90 deg. around
the crosstube and welded. If Jim says it works fine, I believe him. It is so nice
to get input from such an experienced Tailwind builder!
Thanks Jim!
Dave

Fellas...... Jim's input was right on the mark. You don't even know when you
are wearing the shoulder restraints that they aren't perfectly on center with
your spine. They will no doubt hold you in place if you ever have that "Sudden
Stop".... Are we done with this thread????
Congrats to Dave for using good common sense....

Dave,
I wrote my reply before I read the rest of the e-mails and only after did I
read Jim's reply. As you say if anyone should have the best way to do things
odds are that Jim will have the simplest and probably the best way to go about
it. I am going to do the same. KISS applies once again. Pat Mc.

doesn't get to hot. This is similar to what Steve Wittman used. The one in
the picture is a little small but works good. If it is more forward to take
in the elbow area it will melt your tennis shoes. Usually take it off for
