What is the group consensus on the wood stiffeners with Langes late model
heavier gear? I have been under the assumption that supplementing the early rod
gear was necessary but not required on Lange's new gear. After replacing my
early wood stiffened gear with Lange's current production, I have had no
problems and even with my fat butt at 240 lbs and another "good eater" in the plane
with me, the gear is visually stiff enough and offers no handling problems. I
faired my gear with the pvc streamline fairing filled with "Great Stuff."
Jim, you are using the wood supplement as more of an aerodynamic fairing, not
specifically for rigidity, correct?
Paul

Paul, I used wood mostly because I had some. The PVC is much easier and probably
works better using the later gear. Jim C

It is a pvc streamline fairing you can buy and cut to length for you gear
legs, or struts. Great stuff is expandable foam you spray out of an aerosol
can....................Bob 149

I just received a pair of gear leg fairings from
STREAM- LINE FAIRINGS , 2320 Chesley rd. North Port , Fl 34288 phone 941-423-3591
for the Buttercup as suggested by Jim C. They are perfect for the Tailwind
or any other Wittman gear leg . They have large for the main and small for
the nose gear . Price was quite reasonable $ 39.95 a pair ..

Hey guys,
It was 60 degrees here in Memphis. We pulled the TW out and put some of the parts
on it. It's starting to look like something now. We hope to send the fuse off
for powder coating in 3 weeks. We still hope to make Sun-n-Fun in it. Keep
your fingers crossed.
