I considered the aluminum wing for the O-O II, that could have given me 40 gals
or so in the wing, 48 in the nose (more if I'd tried harder), and 12 under the
baggage floor. With a thermos of coffee, couple of sandwiches and the relief
tube that Jim Irby thoughtfully sent me I might could have made it sea to shining
sea with some help from favorable winds, IFR equipment, oxygen and really
good seats!
If you want to build the metal wing, use an automotive engine conversion, or any
number of other reasonable mods, do it and don't worry about what anybody else
thinks. It's your dream, not theirs, not even Steve Wittmans, he's dead anyway
and I'm not aware that he left anybody in charge.
