Arizona flyin. George: I am planning to leave Yolo County Airport Saturday AM. So I expect to be there sometime after noon. We are bringing sleeping bags...and keeping fingers crossed on no fog. I will miss seeing Fred's low passes..........but Dennis Vest is pretty good at them too. In your Rocket it would be a much more integrated installation and your Rans doesn't go fast enough. (Curious what the "Weaver Redline" is in the Rocket) I am sure it could be engineered, but with the super light control forces of the Tailwind, it seems that the dampening of the spring trim system is a plus for flutter prevention. Especially in a "no-holds barred" O-360 install, that occasionally gets the nose lowered quite a bit. Compared to most planes, the Tailwind is pretty easy to fly if the trim was non existent, its just a cruise control. Better put in a 3 - axis A/P if the workload and stick forces are too high for you in a Tailwind! Just stirring the pot! Paul CVX Just another thing for the 3 axis trim crowd......Forest Lovely's plane that he sold to my buddy, Jim Lindner has a great rudder trim setup. Two springs to the rudder pedal cables with a torque tube ahead of the control stick for easy setup. I would incorporate this in my Tailwind at the next rebuild. ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 08:57:37 AM PST US From: "Fred Weaver" Subject: Re: Tailwind-List: Springs My thoughts about the tab on the Tailwind are to build it into the elevator as opposed to hanging it off the Trailing Edge. I don't see any problem at all regardless of feel... About the Rocket... It won't go fast enough without the wheelpants and intersection fairings to go 300 indicated but that's my redline. How does it work out?? My T-18 owner friend likes his, but has had a few problems getting it to work correctly and consistently, particularly the new upgrade with the horizon. The Digitrak primarily controls the ailerons for directional control.
