I'm at a point where I'd like to get the rudder cable fairleads attached to the frame. What is used for the fairleads, and where are they installed?? If I don't ask, and go ahead on my own, I am convinced I'll do it the hardest and most costly way... :-) Thanks, Dave ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 07:53:33 PM PST US s=s1024; d=yahoo.com; b=RcT2nNZEBoADnTJuSY7jy5sifPkTXyr+k3xvcMmWhUSrTaP/w5S8knYZ6+RVpkmk9E35AyYGTBMYf30eHEjsH2afelDVCCkpKr66KeC5bSbv7MDSz2gvPFYc+jWAoPqHW3WpyVrHVyB0jSoTOJH2j2tJZkbGBJvcHtXQ/gRrQkc= ; From: Rich Ellis Subject: Re: Tailwind-List: Rudder Cable Fairleads David, Little surprized you haven't received a response. Jim C uses small tubing in the attached photos. He suggests not welding but rather sodder or braze (can't remember which now), in order to not disrupt the intergrety of the inside of the tube (ie, not create a friction area or edge for the cable to rub up against inside the tube). With brazing or soddering, you don't use as much heat and therefore you can preserve the smooth surface of the inside of the tubing. Hope this helps as I do have more photos should you need them. rich --- David Lamphere wrote: > Help me out guys! > > I'm at a point where I'd like to get the rudder > cable fairleads attached to the frame. > > What is used for the fairleads, and where are they > installed?? > > If I don't ask, and go ahead on my own, I am > convinced I'll do it the hardest and most costly > way... :-) > > Thanks, > Dave Richard L. The tubes are 3/8" steel, the open ends are slightly flared, put a punch or phillips screw driver in and wiggle it around and are brazed, not soldered. There also is one in the lower corner of the truss behind the seat on each side. The final nicro press sleeve is put on after the cable is installed.
