It usually comes in different grit sizes such as "fine", "medium", and "coarse". Old mechanics used this stuff to seat valves on cylinder heads. Has many uses but mainly to remove metal as sandpaper does. After working the compound into the bearing, I worked the bearing back and forth for about 10 minutes and then flushed with running water. I used penetrating oil to capture the remaining grit and flushed with spray carb cleaner until it ran clean. I reinstalled the left flap and aileron and now there is no binding. The product we use is Permatex Valve Grinding Compound (water Mixed) manufactured by Loctite Corp. Alex Here is another use: If you have a phillips head screw that you can't loosen because the tip of the screwdriver keeps slipping, just put a dab of Lapping Compound on the tip of the screwdriver, and Presto !! Keeps the screwdriver from slipping. It works. Chuck G.
