Subject: | Nose Gear Problem |
While working on my condition inspection, I found the nose gear strut would rotate
slightly in the socket. Further inspection showed that the bolt was loose
in the hole in both the socket and in the strut. I know why this happened . The
holes still appear round in the socket, just a bit too large.
I'm contemplating ways to fix this. Candidates so far:
1) Oversize bolt - Does anyone know if there is such a thing in a nominal 5/16"
diameter and a source of supply that will sell one?
2) Fill hole with JB Weld and insert bolt. A variation on this would be to fill
the hole with JBWeld and then ream to fit when the stuff hardens.
3) Ream the gear leg to some larger size (3/8"?) and install a either a press fit
sleeve which is then reamed to fit, or use a larger bolt. An 8 mm metric bolt
would also be a possibility if I can find a grade 8 bolt and reamer.
Any comments from the group as to the best way to proceed? Other suggestions welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Bill

I've got an Airmap 100 I bought new less than two years ago. I tried to
update the database in it a couple of weeks ago and they told me it was no
longer available for that unit. They offered to give me $100.00 tradein on a
500. I told them never mind I would get a Garmin. So that being said I would
sell mine for $250.00. I paid $400 for it.................Bob 149
I also told them I would tell everyone how proud I am of their product
support..................
