Brian Alley will be at my place near Elizabethtown KY on Friday May 20 until Monday or Tuesday to lay up the cowling for the O-O. Some of you have mentioned you'd like to see this being done, and anyone who'd like to stop in is welcome. Brian has the nose bowl section nearly complete, and we'll position it and lay the rest of the cowling up in carbon fiber over wire mesh. The finished cowl will be installed in the same way as the modern Tailwind. This will be MUCH better than using a nose bowl and flat wrap aluminum, as Steve did on the original and I originally intended to do on the replica. Even tho we can't exactly copy the original cowling due to differences in the engines, we'll be making every effort get as close as we can in appearance. I'm looking forward to posting some pics. That's just not true..... There are lot's of Tailwinds that come up from time to time. I'm just grateful to have a very nice one that will stay with me for a Looooonnnnngggg time. And John, remember what I said. You do need a good reliable flying Tailwind to fly while you are de bugging and tinkering with your Mazda/Tailwind.. Of course, if you would rather tinker than fly, just let us know. I'm trying to remember the amount of years you have been building... But of course, you have a short winged Piper to fly and that is reliable. I guess you better keep the Piper so you will still have something to fly after you get your Tailwind finished.... ouch! Looking forward to giving you a bad time at Baraboo.... Bring the breakfast. :) Weav ----- Original Message ----- From: John Downing To: tailwind Sent: Thursday, May 12, 2005 8:26 AM Subject: Tailwind-List: Wiring Weaver; Ordering up wiring and heat box this morning. Trying to figure out wire sizes from Tony's home builders books and every drawing has a different gauge size for the same application. Would buy flying TW, but you bid them out of my price range. John.... I just love picking on you... It's all in Jest of course but I'd sure like to see you flying a little hot rod instead of tinkering. What the hell is a Barrow's engine? ----- Original Message ----- From: John Downing To: tailwind Sent: Thursday, May 12, 2005 5:02 PM Subject: Tailwind-List: Tailwind Value Weaver; You are right on about buying a Tailwind. My none scrounge abilities over the price of buying new would have bought nearly two of Jim's Tailwinds at the time I started building. It is nice that the value of the nice Tailwinds have really taken off. 6 or 8 years ago there were really nice Tailwinds for 10 or 12 thousand. One nice one was Kennedy's with the new Barrows engine as I recall at 15 thousand. A friend of mine bought one of those engines for 12 thousand at about that time. About time, lets not go there, as I'm flying three times a week with what I have, best stress relief in the world. Farmer John Fly those Tailwinds! I'm getting there.

    Subject: Baraboo TW Flyin Update
--> Tailwind-List message posted by: "Jim Clement" <jclement000@centurytel.net> Dates this year are July 22, 23 and 24. The first day of OSH was brought forward to Monday the 25th so maybe it would be best to leave for OSH on Sunday. The good news is we might have access to new bathroom, shower, washer-dryer and maybe complete kitchen facilities. One of the newer Baraboo flyers is building a big hanger equipped for big parties. He also might build a Bearhawk. If anyone wants to show up early, that's fine. There is always something going on. If anyone has any interesting TW videos, bring them along for 'Theater In Bills Hanger" evening entertainment. Jim

Weaver; Burrows is the fellow that designed the Bear Hawk. He also does new engines, O-320's. He is located in Fincastle, VA. at a isolated mountain top airfield. Fred, My metal finishing leaves a lot to desired, but I haven't screwed up anything that 20# of BONDO won't camouflage. You could be doing a lot flying while you are picking on me. Maybe I could trade my Colt for a good W-10 w/Lyconosauras on it. Farmer John
