Oh yes, Jane is going, in fact she has already packed (and I haven't started)!
Good thing too, I hope she will remember all the things I will likely forget.
Rex is out of Oregon. Long time pilot, has his own strip. I met him once when
he came down to look at our tailwinds, but he wanted the W-10 even though priced
much higher--I agree it is a good plane.

Jane does not get to go?
Who is Rex and where is he based? I'm assuming that Dennis sold his Tailwind
to him. If so, I'd say he got a good one.

Yes it was the red T-18--it was nice.
Dennis is still working on radio, intercom and other little stuff. His transmitter
was not working right when we flew into Golden West, so we flew as flight
of 2 and I did the radio communications. He could hear fine apparently,
but was just a hum on transmit.
I think Dennis is supposed to deliver the Tailwind soon and teach Rex how to
fly it off his runway. No he cannot keep up at WOT, but his prop is overpitched--he
needs to have it worked on to allow the engine to turn up more. Even
then, I don't think he could quite keep up, but it may be a lot closer. When
we flew down to Arizona earlier this year he was using more fuel too, but that
may have been due to the engine only having just a few hours since overhaul.
We will have to start inquiring the Fresno guys as to when we will hold the
West Coast Tailwind fly-in this year.....
Look forward to hearing what N168X weighs, and your trip report to/from Baraboo!
Danner and I are off to England, Italy and Switzerland next week.

Seems to me, it took us about 35 minutes or so to Placerville and that included
the taxiing.. We waited for the cluster to lighten up a little, then
we took off on the Ultralight runway.. I hung out there in Placerville for awhile
before flying the other 13 minutes to Westover.
The T18 was the Red one? I followed him into MYV that morning. Nice looking
plane.
Is Dennis almost finished with Jerome's airplane? Rex is waiting for the
annual? to be done?.... BTW, can Dennis keep up with you at full power?
See you soon,

It was good to see you at Golden West. I was looking for you later in
the day, but ended up talking a while with the guy from Shasta with the only T-18
there. Dennis and I left right after the airshow, after the controller left
us cooking on the taxi way for what seemed like about 20 minutes, while he
let scores of aircraft take off from the other intersections. Had a good time
though. How long did it take you to get back in that Rans?

Dave.... I will weigh it before I go to Baraboo. I'm finally getting
my stuff cleaned up and hope to finish the annual in a couple of weeks. At my
speed, that will take about a month since I screw around so much.

Jim:
I don't know what Fred's plane (N168X) weighs, but N168A (a trike for
those who don't know) weighs 942# empty (with oil). 896# seems reasonably
light, and certainly within normal expectations. It does seem like your prop
should turn up some more. I can get almost 2900 RPM @WOT at 2500' in cooler temps
with the Aymar Demuth prop on N168A, and will be doing around 205-207+/-
MPH (true).

The empty weight came out somewhat heavy at 896 pounds. The prop
is a Felix
68 X 76 pitch. The performance of the prop did not match the numbers
as it
would only static 2000 rpm at best and required a lot of changes
to get
satisfactory results. Still not real happy with it.
The numbers below might be about 3 mph fast but close, more testing
seems to
come closer to 187-188 mph @ 2500' 23" mp. 2500. rpm. Top speed
seems to
vary between 204 - 207 mph. Jim
