Although this isn't on Whitman's original plans, this is the way he made
his
taillight.
Bulb is a 1003 single contact as pictured or a 1156 will also work. The 1156
is a normal round automotive bulb. The 1003 is also automotive. This is very
bright at night, much brighter than a normal aviation taillight. Socket is
a
universal automotive, cost about $2.50. The tube that the socket slides into
is 3/4" x .035 or .049 about 2" long brazed or silver soldered to the
trailing edge. Flatten the forward end to a oval shape so the fabric has
a
smooth transition. Jim
