Subject: | Flap Torque Tube |
In the AS&S plans for the W10, it shows the torque tube that the 3 arms are
welded to is 1" .035 wall tube. On the ends, it shows 7/8 X .035 sticking out
7/8". There is a lot of slop between these two tubes, probably causing a
rattle is this is the wear point. Does that loose fitting 7/8" tube go all the
way through the 1" torque tube ? Then, on the side view, it shows two
bushings made from 1" X .058 that are 7/8" long. This, of course, makes a nice
fit with the 7/8" tubes. It's just not clear where the wear points are.

The 7/8" tubes get welded into the 1" tube. The 1" x .058 are welded to the
airframe, these are the wear points. Drill 1/8" holes in the top of the 1"
bushings for oiling. One way to center up the 7/8" in the 1" is to wrap
aluminum tape around the 7/8" tube on the inserted portion for a snug fit.

How much of the 7/8" tubes should be inserted into the 1" tube...about 2" or
3" ?
Are they welded all the way around ?
You already answered how to center it up, and lube the wear point !!
Thanks, Jim

Insert it about 3" or so the tape is about 1/2" in from the welded area.
Weld all the way around.

I haven't got one, but if you look at the plans, you'll see what we're typing
about.
