There was a nice write up on both Tailwinds right after that race in the daily paper, EAA Today. There was an article proposed for SA regarding the race itself, that was approved and outlined, but that is another story. Speaking of the race, the deadline for applications with all forms required, is 31 May for this years run. The holes in the fabric were reinforced with 0.016 aluminum glued to the fabric and covered with a fabric patch. A hole on both sides of the fin makes it easier to install and safety the nut holding the elevator horns and pushrod end together. Bill N40WB I haven't been able to figure out what everyone does to allow the elevator horn to be put inside the covered tail section of the fuse. Access door/panel where horn enters fuse? Circular hole in fabric, insert horn into fuse, rotate onto stab and insert bolts, reach in through fin access door and bolt together arms and pushrod? No rush, but while I am covering the smaller parts, I'm wondering how you put those tail feathers together - neatly. ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 08:27:28 PM PST US From: "Red Hamilton" Subject: Fw: Tailwind-List: ACS Gascolator rubber seal. What is a source for the rubberized cork ones? Thanks, Eric Red Hamilton wrote: They are also the same as for flathead Ford fuel pump sediment bowls, and are usually rubberized cork and last longer than plain cork and don't squirm as much as the rubber. Those cork gaskets are available at Tractor or Farm Supply Stores. I just returned from the Hangar to find a huge stain under the cowling and tailwheel. I had dismanteled and checked the filter screens in the gascolator the week before, re assembled them CHECKED for leaks did not see any and went home. My hangar buddy called me a couple days later to tell me about a stain on the floor. Turns out I spilled 28 galls of fuel through the rubber seal in the gascolator. It was a hot day here in So Cal when I checked the screens and re assembled them, I have a feeling that's why it did not leak there was just enough expansion in the rubber and aluminum to make the seal. When it all cooled down and shrank it started to leak. when I checked the rubber seal it has tiny crackes around the periphery also. So this needs replacing 1 per year it seems. > > > > Just a word to the wise. > > > > Graham Mitchell > > > > > > Graham Mitchell > > Program Manager > > Coast Composites Inc > > Tel 949 455 0665 ext 128 > > Email gmitchell@coastcomposites.com > > > > > > > > > > _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ > > > > This message and any attachments may contain confidential or privileged > > information.
