Keith, We are starved for information on this side of the pond as to what it is like flying elsewhere. Thanks for the report, how much does fuel, hanger, insurance cost? How many hrs do you fly per year? PS; i once sent Piper Pacer parts to a Dr. South of London via a Concord Captain the Dr knew. It was definitely the fastest those parts had ever gone. I have been into a grass strip of only 1100 feet and used only 3/4 of it, with a fresh crosswind at 45 degrees. However, I have also several times found that if I am a bit fast, and get a bounce, I need to go around and try again. Hitting the numbers is important if you want a short landing.Yesterday I arrived back very tired after a long anxious day with a precautionary landing and an unscheduled fuel stop on the way, and took three go-arounds before I got it right. (Zero wind, and a warm day). Just got back from a 4-day trip to the TT races on the Isle of Man in ZIPY. Very exciting flying in very poor conditions at times, in company with a Robin DR?? The W8 kept up quite well most of the time, although I had to redline both propellor and airframe now and again when I was in danger of losing contact during the 60 mile sea crossing in very poor visibility (no transponder in ZIPY). My friends in the Robin were well impressed with the Tailwind, and now understand it is a REAL aeroplane. I'll upload some pictures once I've had time to look at them myself. Last year the same flight in good conditions (Isle of Man-Ronaldsway to Leicester) took less than two hours against a 30mph headwind. Yesterday the whole journey (with two stops en-route) took five hours groping through pea soup at less than 1000 feet for much of the time. Not nice. Have a great time at Boo. One of my pilots wants a Tailwind, but his personal strip is a 1500' hayfield with no obstacles. Money is an issue so he was curious about a W8 with a 0-290 or 0-200. How does the W8 perform at low elevations compared to the W10? Obviously if it not too overweight with poor construction or too many gadgets. He weighs less than 200lbs and normally flies solo in his commutes from his home field. Performance wise he can expect approximately 150-160 mph cruise? Paul Paul F.
