Well, I got the AA1C weighed. You know, N39065, the last AA1C made. As
you all may or may not know, this 2-seater has the O320 conversion from Collier
(now Fletcher) and 10 extra gallons of aux tanks. Over the last 6 months (or
more) it's had a major face lift on the inside. For the instrument panel,
it got a new Garmin 430, a King 125 Nav-Com, Garmin Audio panel with marker
beacon, Narco transponder (the only thing we kept), converted to circuit
breakers, Century HSI, EI CHT, JPI Fuel Flow, EI Super Clock with Altitude Alert,
Horizon Digital Tach, and Mitchell Gauges, set into a custom made version of
Kokaska's overlay and powder coated yokes with built-in PTT. Add to that, all
new
interior, new windshield, new really dark rear windows, a new canopy, and
this is one spiffy little 2-seater. Albeit, not a cheap one. And not a light
one either. With the wings completely drained, it weighs 1212 lbs. The
computed CG with full fuel and pilot and a few odds and ends puts it 3/4 inch aft
of the forward CG and right at the 1600 Gross weight.
And, I used to think the Citabria was weight limited with a 1750 lb Gross
weight and an empty weight of 1205 lbs. Indeed.
Bill's plan is to fly 39065 to WA and get the gross weight increase from
Blackman. I don't think it'll be quite the Citabria's 1750 lb gross weight
limit, but, every ounce helps. Maybe, he should have just bought my Citabria!
It carried 38 gallons of gas, was almost as fast, out climbed it by a mile, and
he could have carried clothes when he took his wife on vacation.
